Joshua Rains has a visual practice that explores identity and sexuality, as it is shaped by the violence of masculinity, through the emphasis of low-fi artistic methods such as conceptual drawing, sculpture, and performance—all remade through a queer lens.
Based in Chicago after a three-year relocation to Los Angeles, he received his MFA in 2018 from the University of Southern California, Roski School of Art and Design, before holding a post-MFA teaching fellowship at USC from 2018-2019. His work has been exhibited nationally at ACRE Projects in Chicago, IL, Klowden Mann and Rude Drawing in Los Angeles, CA, and Kunstraum in Brooklyn, NY as well as internationally at Tijuana Performera, in Tijuana, Mexico. He is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor at Northwestern University in the Department of Radio/Television/Film.
